My Stolen Meme

(I stole this from Secret Agent Josephine because there is nothing I love more than a good meme in the evening. And because I'm having a slow news week/month.)

1. When did you start blogging and why? Or, talk about your blog. What can I learn about you in under five minutes?

I started my first blog in early 2005, when I got my DeviantArt account and found the journal on that site to be my personal place to vent every single thing I'd ever thought wrong with anything. It wasn't until late 2006 that I realized blogging wasn't just about saying, "FUCK YOU!" to friends you were fighting. This blog was started in summer 2007. If you were to just take a quick glance, you'd probably soon discover that most of my life revolves around romance. And that I have a lot of feelings.

2. How do you use blogging to build friendship?

I mostly use it to check up on friends I already have, though there are exceptions. Adults like Dooce and SAJ, whom I have never had the pleasure of meeting, mainly provide me with a look into a possible future, I suppose. My blog hasn't garnered enough popularity to really connect me with bloggers across the universe. Yet. -chuckles-

3. Who do you read every day, rain or shine?

Heather Armstrong. I'm pretty sure this is like, the fourteenth time I've linked to her. But she's one of the main people who inspired me to start keeping up on my blog.

4. Why did you choose to share that piece of yourself in a photograph?

I like to think of myself as a very grim and fun-loving person, simultaneously. And also because I made that hat all by myself. Be proud.

5. How would you describe your writing style?

Sort of... expository. I feel like any time I'm writing a post, I'm giving an in-depth look into how things used to be, or how things have been. It's much harder for me to be a journalist than it is for me to be an autobiographer.

6. If you could spend time with any other person who blogs (excluding spouses) , who would it be?

To be honest with you, it'd be Pete Wentz, although his blog is currently all about products he's liking and not getting paid to promote. I have always said that I just want to sit down and have a tea with that man. There's a lot going on in his noggin.

7. What don't you write about? Anything a no-no in your book?

I try not to write about things that could get me arrested. Also, I don't like to write things about my family that they would hold against me. All in good humor. Some things I'll just find a bit too personal, too, like things I wouldn't talk to a therapist or a counselor about.

8. How do you feel about meeting bloggers in real life?

The same way I feel about meeting celebrities or internet friends. There's a certain attraction to it, but there's always the chance they won't be how you've inferred from, basically, reading their journal. I approach it with caution and discretion.

9. Have you written anything controversial? Is blogging controversial?

Totally. The act of blogging in itself is like asking for attention. Anything you write is fair game. And of course, I've sometimes been enough of a simpleton to post things that cut a little too close to the quick. Luckily, the worst of those are stashed away on other sites and long archives.

10. Are you and your blogging persona the same person?

For the most part, yes. I try not to exaggerate anything or make myself seem like I'm more adventurous than I am. The truth of it is that I am a plain Jane from Salt Lake City, and I am desperately clawing at the reins to get the Hell out of here. I occasionally use a pen name, because my name is very uninteresting. Now you must figure out which is the real one! Oh, ho ho ho ho!

11. Have you ever posted on a site anonymously to flame them?

Er. I'm only half-sure what "flame them" means. I'll assume it means to get all up in their business, in which case, no, I haven't. If I'm going to get all up in someone's business, I let them see who I am. But I'm afraid of confrontation. So that's a very unlikely situation.

12. If you had a superpower, what would it be?

Totally, totally, the power of hindsight. Oh wait. I already have an abundance of that. Just call me the Bad Decision Kid!

Now it's your turn, who do you tag?

I dub this to Emily and Dobbl. Use it well, my ladies.
